Shall we give blogging a try?

We have learned how to set up a blog, we have been participating in our own blog with the aim of getting familiar with it. Now it is time to think how feasible it is for you to start a class blog, considering your own context.

I´ve found a blog created by an English teacher in Australia. The name of the blog is The open classroom. I invite you to read the post called blogging in class in 2008. There she tells us about her experience blogging with her students and links us to some samples of her grade 8 and 7 blogs, which I think you should not miss. Take your time to explore some of her previous posts and you will find useful information that can in some way contribute to open our minds to the possibility of using this tool.

It would also be of great value if you shared with us other teachers´ experiences with class blogs that you have come across.

  1. I think that this is an important thing to take into account before implementing it, for instance if we see the rural parts it requires more than the wish of doing, you need internet and in some schools there is no internet so, it is imposoble to implement blogs. but in other hand you can create sofware that works without internet.

  2. I agree with Cesar but we need to be aware of the fast advance of technology, so places located far away will have the opportunity to use it soon. Then, we need to begin to learn about blogging and try to design projects in order for students take advantage of this useful tool. Different abilities can be developed trhough these websites and a great team work can be carried out....

  3. Technology is in our lives for improving it. The challeng is to adapt it to our classes. In this page there are different examples of blogs, they are interesting and give some ideas about how to used them with our students. I agree with Cesar, our students have a limit time for accesing to internet, so I have planned to use blogs with high students in conection with the informatic teacher.

  4. Nowadays the access to Internet and the new technologies has arrived at the most remote places nevertheless in the rural schools only has service of Internet two hour daily what doed that the design and implementation of blogs in the classes is a somewhat slow exercise. For that reason the idea of carlos to work in collaboration with the informatic teacher seems very good for me because it allows us to make a collaborative work with the appropriated person who us can offer his/her knowledges and to enrich our work. In addition that us can present solutions to face the problem with the use of Internet in our rural school.

  5. The use of technology through blogs was an important experience for me this year. Students wrote their opinions about different activities in the school and I had the opportunity to discover their mistakes and progress in writing skill, but the use of Internet was limited because in the town, only exist three places to practice the activities and they are always full. Moreover, each one only has two or three computers. This is a bad situation for my students.
